Obituary

It is with saddened hearts that the family of the late Ellis Stuckless said goodbye to an amazing husband, father, brother, papa, uncle and friend. Ellis passed away at St. John’s, NL on Monday, January 27th, 2020 at the age of 67 years.

Ellis was born in Hampton, NL on September 11th, 1952 and grew up in Seal Cove, White Bay while working and raising his family in Baie Verte, NL. He was a passionate and dedicated family and community man. Ellis was proud of his five girls with whom he shared his love of learning and the importance of following one’s heart. Always compassionate and positive, Ellis remained steadfast throughout the many challenges he faced.

Ellis is predeceased by his parents – William & Mildred (Rice) Stuckless and parents-in-law – Ted & Mary (Seviour) Godden.
Left to carry on his legacy of kindness is his wife – Mary Lou (Godden); daughters – Sarah Jane (Patrick), Rebecca (Justin), Joanna (Aaron) and Katie; six grandchildren – Samanatha , Anna, Luke, Jacob, Emily and Jack; siblings – Gary Stuckless (Leona) and Louise Furey (Mike); nieces and nephews – Colin Stuckless, Nikki Pinksen, Shanna Furey and Billy Furey as well as a large circle of extended family, Masonic family, colleagues and innumerable friends.

In compliance with Ellis’ wishes, cremation has taken place.

Public Visitation will take place from Foster Funeral Home, 22 Main Street, Baie Verte, NL on Friday, February 7th, 2020 from 2:00-4:00PM and 6:00-9:00PM.

A Celebration of Ellis’ life will take place at St. Paul’s Anglican Church Hall, Highway 410, Baie Verte, NL on Saturday, February 8th, 2020 at 3:00PM.

As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ellis’ memory to the Baie Verte Scholarship Fund.

Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Foster Funeral Home, 22 Main Street, Baie Verte, NL.

I am shocked and saddened to be learning of Ellis's passing. I had the privilege of working with him for some years on a school board committee. He was such a fine gentleman and a very dedicated colleague. My condolences to you and your family.

You have been in my thoughts since I heard of Ellis' passing. Though it has been years, I always think of him as a kind and gentle man who made family events all the more special. I know that he will be missed and memories of him will be cherished.

My sincere condolences Mary Lou and family. Ellis was a friend and a colleague. We taught together; worked at the District Office together; and served on a Provincial School Assessment Committee together. He was, without exception, a remarkable person and a joy to be around.
